Introduction to solar self-consumption


A self-consumption photovoltaic installation is a technical and economic investment that aims to reduce dependence on grid electricity and use sunlight to generate free electricity to meet the user's energy needs. It also favors the fight against climate change while saving on electricity bills.


Through solar panels, sunlight is transformed into direct current (DC) and the inverter converts it into alternating current (AC), which allows it to be added to the alternating current coming from the electrical grid and satisfy the user's energy needs. This connection is made in the distribution panel of the house and is then distributed throughout the house.

The installation does not produce noise or movement in its operation, and therefore it is necessary to monitor it to know its normal operation and thus, avoid production stoppages. It is as important to know what you produce as what you consume (self-consumption curve) and the greater the precision in the consumption and generation measurements, the greater the use or profitability. Therefore, we offer monitoring and CcM solar self-consumption solutions with the aim of improving the quality of life and saving on the electricity bill.

Most PV inverter manufacturers have a physical and digital system to display the inverter production and consumption of a home as part of their product but they stop there and do not provide a complete solution. With our CcM metering equipment you will have a tool that will help you to know your domestic consumption with much more precision and detail. Our solution is focused and designed from the point of view of the consumer, and not from the generation, as it provides the user with a greater and more accurate knowledge of their consumption as well as a contribution of intelligence to the system, preparing it for what is to come (V.E. and intelligent load management).

Inverter regulation and 0 discharge available in this solution.

Our CcM-Combox is a PLC with a high processing capacity with multiple inputs and outputs and the ability to interface with all inverters with MODBUS protocol. It is recommended to use this solution when the photovoltaic installation requires:

  • Read inverters in less than 2 seconds.
  • Act on the inverter for regulation.
  • To do "0" load and/or discharge management
  • Calculation of PR or availability by using radiation or weather station.
  • Multiple inverters (>6) or several different models and brands.
  • Technical customization of the installation (irrigation systems, pumps, industrial processes, etc.) or of the information to be displayed on the software interface.

No direct reading of the inverter: Saving in wiring and installation.

This solution allows to generate the self-consumption curve in a very simple and efficient way. It is composed of two CcM Family meters: an energy or primary meter that measures all the electrical parameters of the grid (consumed, imported and surplus) and a current or secondary meter that measures the production of the photovoltaic field.

Both devices are placed on the respective input magnets. In this way it is not necessary to interrogate or read the inverters to know their production. The data is sent to our server through a WiFi connection hosted on our Master device.

It consists of an intelligent equipment (CcMaster) that extends the coverage and the possibility of communications and two meters of the CcM Family: an energy or Main meter that measures all the electrical parameters of the network (consumed, imported and surplus) and a second energy or Main meter that measures the production of the photovoltaic field.

Direct reading of the inverter through wiring to read the generated energy.
Allows reading of the photovoltaic batteries and the inverter's internal alarms.

It consists of an intelligent device (CcMaster) connected to the inverter via RS-485 or ethernet with a wide range of communications and functionalities, and an energy meter from the CcM family that measures all electrical parameters of the grid or imported energy.

With this configuration all the parameters of generated and surplus energy are obtained, as well as imported energy, being its installation simple and very precise in the measurement.

Residential and industrial

Currently, Collective Self-consumption is one of the most interesting energy models. It involves great economic and energy savings by allowing several consumers to share the same photovoltaic installation. It is open, therefore, to blocks of apartments, industrial estates and energy communities.
To enjoy a collective self-consumption installation there are certain requirements if we are in a community of owners (under the LPH):

  • We need the approval of 1/3 of the co-owners to be able to install the collective self-consumption system, which must be approved at the owners' meeting.
  • The physical connection of the self-consumption installation can NOT be in the internal installation of any of the co-owners (i.e. it cannot be connected in the switchboard of a co-owner).


String Solution

This solution, extended and compatible with CcM's Domestic or Industrial solutions, allows a series by series reading of the photovoltaic production. It is recommended for use in those installations that have inverters or frequency inverters that only have one or two current inputs, but that nevertheless, due to their power, require a very high number of panels, making it necessary to group and busbar the series before entering the inverter or inverter. In this way there is a complete monitoring of the photovoltaic installation. As a practical example, it is very useful in brands such as Victron or Solar Edge in its high power range.


Our Scadas are a web platform hosted on our server that offers a free service for hosting the data collected by the CcM devices, their processing and visualization.

This web platform is powered by the data sent by:

  • CcM WiFi devices configured in "Cloud" mode.
  • CcMaster devices configured to send to our MQTT server (default option).

What can we use these Scadas for?

Through this web you can visualize the data, link Smart Meter CcM to users, and register both users and new equipment for remote control and visualization. The functionalities are similar to those provided by our App but in web format and to carry out a deeper study of the graphs and data of the devices.
